5 Reasons Gays Love Brunch

You may think it is a cliche, that most gays spend their Saturday/Sunday early afternoons at Brunch, but you are wrong. We do. We love brunch like we love a sale at Barney’s. But why? Why is this hybrid of a meal between breakfast (which we never do) and lunch (when is that?) such a gay delight? Well, let me tell you.

1. We don’t like to wake up early.

We really don’t. If we weren’t dancing the night away the night before, we were solving the world’s problems with our friends over a bottle of wine. And we need our beauty sleep. Which means we aren’t popping out of bed at 9 am to stuff some pancakes in our mouth. We prefer to start our daily intake at a more reasonable hour, after the gym. Say, 1:00 pm?

2. We like drink specials.

Brunch oftentimes comes with one of those magical signs that says “All you can drink mimosas.” And if you can find a gay that doesn’t like a mimosa, I bet you can find me a unicorn too. Drink specials make us happy. (We know the cheap champagne will give us a hangover, leave us alone.)  Unlimited drinks make us ecstatic, and super smart.

3. Gossip is better early in the day.

You have seen Sex and the City. (and if you have not, you need to stop reading now and turn it on - any season will do.) The girls dish all about men and work and life and purses over brunch. And so do the gays. We need to fill each other in on the dreadful doings of the night before… and brunch is the perfect time to do it - before we start ramping up for the next night.

4. Options.

Insert your own joke here but gays like options. And brunch offers us just that. We can opt for a low-carb spinach and egg white burrito or a smart Cobb salad. The world is our culinary oyster! Sometimes we like to swing to the breakfast end but other times we are ready to bring on the salads and sandwiches. Oh, options.

5. Gays are trendy.

This is so obvious it barely needs explanation. It is not snazzy to text your bud asking if he wants to grab breakfast down at the diner. Brunch is where it is at. And gays are always ahead of the curve on trends.

See? Now you are a little bit smarter even without the mimosas. This weekend, do us proud and get a group of friends together, throw some product in your hair, and find a sign that says, "drink specials" around 1 pm for a sensible brunch. You will thank me.
